NEW SITE

March 19, 2009 at 7:06 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , )

I’ve been a bit MIA posting my blogs. But I have a good reason, promise. I’ve started a website with some friends and all of our unique perspectives have shifted that way.

Check us OUT: http://www.whyaretheystilltalking.com

It’s interesting I promise. We have blogs, podcasts and video posts. We will tackle anything and everything to sports, fashion, music, technology. You name it, we’ll discus it. Lately some of our topics have been the songs we want to get freaky to, a Watchmen review and the takeover of nerds.

My newest post is about reality TV…how it has taken over…and the shows I wish could come back on in its place.

See for yourself…we have a lot to say….obviously…were still talking…

So Hollywood

February 24, 2009 at 7:15 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

jabbawockeez-1

I love “America’s Best Dance Crew.” I don’t always watch it, but when I happen to catch it, I can’t help but love the dancers. Each of the groups are amazing and have sick skills. But all of a sudden I can’t help but realize how Hollywood the JabbaWockeeZ become (they won season 1 of ABDC).

They have a gatorade commercial with KG and Derek Jeter. They were at the NBA All-Star Game and danced with Big Shaq. They are a good crew and I am taking nothing away from that. They are amazing dancers. I only wish I could do half of what they do. But really…what happened…when did they get soo Hollywood? I’m just saying.

Weezy Baby

February 24, 2009 at 7:07 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

I enjoy rap and hip/hop. For a girl you would be surprised how much I know about it and how often I listen to it. When I’m at a club and Jay Z’s “PSA” comes on I am there with all the guys saying, “allow me to re introduce myself…”

But when Lil Wayne came out I never jumped on the best rapper alive bandwagon. There were too many better artists out there. With that said, I never was a hater either. What I love about Wayne is his ability to take the most simple of things and turn it into rap gold.

For example some of my favorite lines include “i’m the bomb like tick, tick.” or “I said lady whats your number she said 911.” or “Body marked up like the subway in harlem” or “and i’ll cool your ass down if you think your hot shit.” Obviously all great lines of even better songs. But it is in his song “Comfortable” with Babyface that Wayne really made me a fan of his.

Case in point his fist verse on this song:

“yeah to the left to the left
if you wanna leave be my guest, you can step
feeling irreplacable listen to beyonce
but ok ill put you out on your bday”

This is just brilliance to me and I absolutely love it. Not to mention the rest of the song is amazing. Give it a listen if you don’t believe me…

peace…

21 plus 3

birthday_candles

It’s almost my 24th birthday and I can’t help but think about some things. Last year when I was turning 23 I thought I was old. When I turned 22 I was sad I wasn’t 21 anymore. But now at 24 I’m ready to accept my age and will be proud to say I’m 24.

There are a few things, however,  that I can’t help but think about…a job, my future, a career. It’s hard to be a college graduate and not have any of these things. Even worse I have no idea. I know what I want to do but getting there is a different story.

So when I blow out the candles on my cake (which will probably be more a drink with vodka than an actual cake with icing) I will be happy to be the age I am but scared for the uncertainty that this year is going to bring.

peace and love….

Happy 24th to Me….

Superman

February 16, 2009 at 4:41 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

ept_sports_nba_experts-550592543-12345880511

This weekend was the All Star break in Phoenix. While watching the events I found my new favorite. I’ve always been a huge basketball fan but at times I not only like a player for their skill but also their personality.

To me Dwight Howard has that personality that makes you love him. He is charasmatic, doesn’t take himself seriously and has fun.  Not to mention, he is still a bad ass player.

Anyone who lets their competitor dunk over them in a contest is a pretty good person in my book. Not to mention that dunk pretty much guaranteed Nate Robinson the win this year.

He seems like a down to earth guy who you could be friends with. Obviously I know this is something that makes me such a girl, but I don’t care. I don’t just like a player for their talent. I like to watch someone who I geniunly like, someone who gets the crowd behind them. I think he does that really well.

I never really payed attention to him before the All Star events. To me he was just Superman from last years game…But I can tell you that now I will. And how could you hate on his tmobile commercial with Charles and D.Wade.

I think I finally have a new favorite player. And at least this time around it’s one who actually plays. 🙂

peace….

St. Valentine

February 14, 2009 at 4:27 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , )

valentine_heart

Valentine’s Day is always a day that brings up a wide range of emotions. I’m here to tell you why I think Valentine’s Day is just another day….

I guess I started to think about this after I talked to my friends. They were unhappy with the amount of Valentine paraphernalia that line the shelves of every grocery store, CVS and Hallmark. I will admit it is a bit overdone (and this is coming from someone who is in a relationship). So I can see what they mean.

But to me this day is like every other day. Yes it’s a time for couples to showcase their love but how is that different than any other day? Sure I will give my boyfriend a Valentine but I also give him gifts, cards, dinners…throughout the rest of year.

What I told them is what I am going to tell you. Tomorrow is just another day. Whether you have a significant other or not, it’s just another day.

So if you have a boyfriend, girlfriend enjoy the day together and whatever you may or may not have planned. If you are single it’s not the end of the world. I am so tired of people trying to make it out to be. Go out with friends treat it like every other Saturday night. Because when it comes down to it Valentine’s Day is nothing more than a Saturday night. Will we all not wake up to it being Sunday morning?

much love…

peace…

Upgrade/Downgrade

February 12, 2009 at 8:37 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I’m at it again giving my ups and downs to things in the world.

Upgrade: The beautiful Michelle Obama, Mrs. First Lady, is on the cover of Vogue. I love this because I pretty much love her. I think she does a great job of balancing a life, career, kids and husband. She is a smart woman and doesn’t take crap from people, she is someone to look up to.

01v

Downgrade: I hate pennies. I feel they are a useless currency. I’m sorry Lincoln but they are. Maybe they should have put your face on something more valuable. Well today I heard that they are designing new pennies in honor of his birthday. And get this, there’s more than one design. Each will showcase a different phase in his life. Just when I thought we were slowly getting rid of pennies they want to go and do this. How about we put Lincoln on something else and get rid of them for good? They are just loose change and I can’t stand to carry them.

Upgrade: The Academy Awards are in a little over a week and I have to admit that I am kind of excited. I like to watch and see who wins. Even better I love when the underdogs win. The movies that aren’t blockbusters and don’t have huge celebrities who have either uglied themselves up or gained weight for the epic role. So this year my favorite is Slumdog Millionaire. This was an amazing movie, smart, exciting and suspenseful. Was he going to win that million? Nonetheless I would looove to see this take home best picture. The pattern of previous award shows seem to lead it that way, but you never know.

Downgrade: I hate to put him here because I love him but I have to do it. WTF happened with Chris Brown and Rihanna? There is so much speculation and the more I hear the worse it gets. Just recently I heard that Chris choked Rihanna to the point of unconsciousness. Really? Chris Brown? I don’t think I would have ever seen this coming. I want to know the truth. I want to know what happened. Until I do I am still going to listen to his music and try not to think about it (but trust me it’s hard). My favorite song is “Take You Down,” and somehow it’s just not as good anymore. You really don’t know how much this kills me because I love him as an entertainer.

rihanna-brown

Upgrade: Twitter has become my favorite thing (Thanks Steve and Evan). It’s a great way to keep up with people and honestly it’s just fun. At first I was skeptical but the more I use it the more I like it. Not to mention that a ton of celebrities have one as a way to stay in contact with their fans. How cool is that? Obama, Shaq, Kanye West, Erykah Baduh all have one. I’m not going to lie…I feel special when I get a twit from The_Real_Shaq. I think this site is only growing and I can’t wait for more people to have one.

That’s all for now.

peace…..

Grammy Night According to Me

February 9, 2009 at 7:29 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

-Chris Brown….what? I can’t believe it. This is absolutely crazy. Whoever thought the words CB and assault would be in the same story.

-I have been looking forward to the “Swagga Like Us” performance all week. I hope it’s as good as I’m expecting.

-Not a huge country fan but I like Carrie Underwood. Her new song is great! “It started off hey cutie where you from and then it turned into oh no, what have I done.” Brilliant!

-Even if I was 15 again I don’t think I’d like the Jonas Brothers. But damn performing with Stevie….ok that’s pretty bad ass. They just went up about 10 points on my cool meter.

-Aww Blink 182 how can you not love them. They were great and I loved them growing up. OMG they are getting back together? Was that serious?? Really….I think I just went back in age a little bit. Please tell me this is serious….

-Does Craig Ferguson realize Katy Perry’s not a lesbian. That was interesting. And I am so sick of this damn song. She never performs “Hot N Cold” which is definitely the better of the two songs.

-The world stops for me. I must listen to “American Boy” this fricking song will NEVER get annoying. I am obsessed. Silence please!

-So Kanye is never going to let it go that he lost for best new artist. And I’m torn on who should win. Adele or Duffy, I like them both…thank god it didn’t go to the Jo Bros. (that’s my nickname for them). Adele won btw.

-Ohh shooot….Swagga Like Us….this is going to go down as a huge performance. I am absolutely in love with this! Black and white, all of them up there too. Maybe now radios will start playing this song more than “Live Your Life.”

-Just because you are next to USC doesn’t mean you have to invite the marching band to be part of the Grammy’s. UCLA is more Hollywood anyway.

-T.I. and JT. Always a good collaboration but I wanna hear “If I.” Come on boys…

-Neil Diamond…”Sweet Caroline” please tell me how could the Grammy’s get any better tonight

-So I kinda feel like it’s dragging on a little. 3+ hours is a long time to expect someone to watch TV

-Best Rap Album goes to Lil Wayne. Not a huge shock. P.S. Why is Solange there with J instead of B?

-Did anyone ever think to put the huge performances at the end of the night to keep people watching? Like what if they waited to do Swagga…put it at the very end. People would stay up to watch it. That I promise

-FINAL GRAMMY OF THE NIGHT…as much as I have enjoyed it I am happy to call it a night. My money is going to be on Coldplay and wow was I wrong. Raising Sand…who knew.

Of all the performances tonight I think I have to give it to Swagga Like Us. It was so hot! And really there is not argument there.

Michael Smokes Mary

February 3, 2009 at 4:55 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , )

So if you haven’t heard Michael Phelps got caught smoking marijuana. Two scenarios came to mind when I heard this.

phelpsbong__opt1First- The boy is 23. Did people think he was going to be a perfect role model athlete forever? Even Kobe Bryant, Charles Barkley and a slew of baseball players have made some questionable decisions. It was only a matter of time before this seemingly perfect water god was made human again. But in my mind smoking weed is not that bad. There are worse things he could have been caught doing. AND let’s not forget that Michael was arrested in 2004 for drinking and driving. He isn’t perfect and people shouldn’t look at him that way.

However, there is also the second side to this. Where the bad part of it may come in. Olympic athletes are held to high standards and something like this could ultimately hurt Phelps. He just won 8 GOLD MEDALS! And amazing accomplishment. And though weed would not have helped him (it probably would have hurt him) it’s something people are going to be looking at come London 2012. I guarantee his drug testing will be more invasive and more frequent. Luckily he hasn’t lost endorcements because really that is where his high paying income is coming from. Olympic athletes don’t make the $$ that those in the NBA, MLB, NFL etc do.

So I guess the only question to ask yourself is what side are you on? The side of the olympic officials who think this is horrible and Phelps should never have acted so irresponsibly? Or are you on the other side? The one who understands how people make bad decisions in their life. Not to mention who would think about being photographed while hitting the bong. At the end I say…poor Michael. Leave him alone and leave this alone. There are more serious things to think about. I can think of at least a few thousand….

peace

The New Carrie Bradshaw

January 26, 2009 at 2:53 am (Uncategorized) (, , , )

whitney-port-page-six-magazineI thought this was a joke. Someone at NY Post Magazine trying to be funny. But no it’s real. They are seriously asking us (the reader) this question….Is Whitney Port the new Carrie Bradshaw? Since most of you probably don’t know who she is, Whitney is the “star” of a reality show on MTV “The City.” It’s about as real as actually I don’t think it’s real at all. But anyway…to call her the new Carrie Bradshaw is heartbreaking. I am a huge “SATC” fan and for them to give her that title is wrong on so many levels. There are so many more deserving people to give that honor to and really I don’t think Miss SJP should have to give it up. But back to Whitney, I already started to have a strong dislike for this girl and her show. But after hearing this that just put me over the edge.

Read for yourself and see what you think

http://www.nypost.com/pagesixmag/issues/20081214/Whitney+Port+New+Carrie+Bradshaw

But for “SATC” fans everywhere like myself it’s a sad day when she is the next in line to fill those manolo heels.
